It's funny how we adopt words and adapt our lexicon to the times. This is a very useful slant on things.

Great post! You're right - people don't realize that social media is not a silver bullet. It's just like any other marketing or communications strategy - it takes a well-thought out plan and hard work. Twitter and other social media tools are just the medium to transmit the message. I wasn't able to attend the event, but was able to catch most of it online. You're recap is dead on!

P.S. I compiled a bunch of the posts I found about the event. I added this one to my blog: http://su.pr/AmSRlX

The biggest point as you brought out is the fact that creating a social media stategy is just like creating any kind of communications strategy. Using social media is indeed cheap and easy but that doesn't mean it is simple. Many people are not aware that the first thing you have to do before you can even decide on strategy is to just listen. There are some great examples of companies who really learned how to listen and not just for figuring out how to sell the next widget. The best one I can think of is Dell Computers. There Fanpage is fantastic but guess what. It is not about computers. Go figure.
Thanks for sharing your notes. Lindsay. Maybe I'll meet you at the next Social Media Club event.
