Guilty Pleasures

You have got to love this Wikipedia defition of a “guilty pleasure”:

A guilty pleasure is something one considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. Often, the “guilt” involved is simply fear of others discovering one’s lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes, rather than actual moral guilt. Fashion, music, and food (especially unhealthier foods high in sugar and/or fat) can be examples of guilty pleasures

We all have guilty pleasures.

Right?

Right?

Surely, I am not alone in this?

Well, anyway…I have one several. But one I will share with you to get this started:

GENERAL HOSPITAL - Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth), Jason Thompson (Patrick) and Kimberly McCullough (Robin) in a scene that airs the week of September 7, 2009 on ABC Daytime's "General Hospital." "General Hospital" airs Monday-Friday (3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. GH09 (ABC/RON TOM) REBECCA HERBST, JASON THOMPSON, KIMBERLY MCCULLOUGH

General Hospital - I know it is a “soap opera.” I know that “soap operas” are for people who stay at home all day long and are forced to watch the television. I know “soap operas” have far-fetched plots. I know. I know. But for some crazy reason I love this “soap opera.” I do. I do. I love the complicated (but oh so predictable) characters: the lovable but brooding mobster, the fearless woman who is always getting herself into jams, the trainwreck couples who can never seem to stay together or stay apart. For me, there just is something oddly comforting about General Hospital. Seriously, I tape it EVERY day so that it is on my DVR just in case if I want to tune in and see what is happening in Port Charles.

Guilty pleasure indeed.

Your turn…name one of your guilty pleasures. Oh, and make it a good one.

I LOVE General Hospital… it is one of my guilty pleasures too! I love to catch up when I can…especially since soapnet has it on the weekend.

It started my freshman year of college when several of my new friends watched it every day. One even scheduled her classes around it. I was hooked. The Liz and Lucky storyline…still one of my most favorites.

Okay, I'll fess up…I enjoy a good game of Text Twist over on the MSN game page. I tell myself that I'm working my brain to keep the Alzheimer's demon away. Who knows? People say "everything in moderation" – does that apply to guilty pleasures too? :-)

Cindy, Do you have an iphone? Words with Friends is one of my new "addictions." It is so fun! If you like word games, you'd love it.

Guilty pleasures…does being awesome all the time count? No? Well, my one habit from childhood that's carried over is that I still have a gaming console in my home. I justify this by saying to myself that a lot of guys my age still play games. Then I go to the game aisle or store and see the other guys that are playing games, and my justification kind of goes out the window.

Matt, Hilarious. I think it is normal…or normal enough.

I used to work at Books-A-Million and we'd go in the stores on Saturdays and I was always amazed at the older guys playing Pokeman and YuGiOh! with the young boys. It's like they didn't realize they had outgrown the game.

Desperate Housewives. Yep. I just said that out loud.

I admit – General Hospital is one of mine too. But, add to that the Bachelor (eek!) and the Hills on MTV. Love them all…

My TV show guilty pleasure is Family Guy. Although I must admit it was way better when I could quote it back and forth with Brian Bishop all day…

Tivo/DVR's facilitate my indulgence of these guilty pleasures and are set to follow these characters/personalities such as Coach Taylor, Jack Bauer, Tom Colicchio, Randy Jackson, and Clair Dunphy. Any guesses, some obvious some not so obvious! Great topic to kick off the weekend!

So Days of our Lives used to be mine ,until we did not have TV for 6 months. Once I removed myself from Salem I have somehow managed make that vacation a permanent one.

My new guilty pleasure is HOARDERS ! I can't help but watch. It fascinates me why I am not sure, but I tune in every week even though I feel a little bad about it, like I am watching something I shouldn't .

I also feel guilty for all the time I have put into my Mario Kart addiction I've been playing for over ten years now as my alter ego "Yoshi" ! Oh I try not to even think about all the time I have spent on racing that little dragon around , but it is so much fun !

Love GH!!! I DVR it too and if for some reason that president of our interrupts the program I quickly set the DVR to record it on Soapnet:) Yes its sad but sometimes Port Charles is the best place to go to even when the story lines get a little lame:)LOL!!

So I guess the would be my guilty pleasure as well……..

Cooking shows. Just a few in particular:

    "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives"
    "Dinner Impossible"
    "Iron Chef America"
    "Ace of Cakes"

The cheesy factor is HIGH on some of those and they're awesome :)

I used to have a guilty pleasure which I saw mentioned above: People Magazine. I used to buy it in the store. But then I felt like I was wasting my money on it because in reality I think movie stars live vapid lives–but of course, I can tell you about the lives of the majority of the stars! (Yes, I know that is odd, and my friends tease me ad nauseum about it!) I watch very little television–only Brothers and Sisters on Sunday nights–but I STILL check out People.com! It is a weird addiction I have because, as I said, very, very few movie stars are living model lives that I want to emulate!

There are a lot of things that I am not ashamed to mention: watching TMZ from time to time, watching American Idol, getting pedicures, you know the usual things.

One of my guilty pleasures is the show Teen Moms on MTV. My sister was watching an episode the other day and I started watching. The drama sucks you in and you laugh/feel terribly sorry for these girls. Maybe I like the show because I have two younger sisters and I feel for the girls that are in this show, but I would be ashamed of any of my friends knowing I watch. I guess it is out now.

I get grief all the time from my "Christian" friends but I love everything having to do with ghost hunting. I'll watch Ghost Hunters and Paranormal State on TV and if ever given the chance to go ghost hunting, I'm there.

EOnline and TMZ. I can go without sometimes. But eventually my fingers start typing the address. I feeds my need for drama.

Oh boy Law & Order: Svu & Grey's Anatomy – and Grey's is probably the worse of the two – Just when it goes a little over the top and I am ready to break up with it – they throw in a little Private Practice crossover and I am sucked right back in – I just can't help myself. Yes, My name is Brittany and I have a problem!!

I watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette. I used to just claim i was in the room when my wife watched, but I've since come clean. Despite the fact that it's the cruelest show on television, it is a riveting hour of TV (and yes, i know it's on for 2 hours, but between commercials and teases its only an hour of programming).

if these people are willing to put their hearts on the line in a junior-high style pick 'em, I'm gonna be watching.

Ha! Those are terrible shows! And a college acquaintance of mine got on last season – only to be blown out of the water on the first episode.

Man, your guilty pleasure makes mine not look so bad…wait, was the point to make fun of everyone else's guilty pleasures? So we'll all grow up and kick our bad habits?

Hmmm….guilty pleasures…I love me some So You Think You Can Dance. And, of course, it really goes without saying that I am a coffee fanatic. Really missing it right now. Sigh. Halfway through (almost).
