Miscellaneous Thoughts from Thirty Thousand Feet

Right now I am making the journey home after three long-but-amazing days in New York City for the O’Reilly’s Tools of Change for Publishing conference.

And while I am feeling the pressure to get out a thought-provoking blog post, I feel like all my circuits are…well, a little overloaded.

Here’s are just a few of my miscellaneous thoughts from thirty thousand feet… (more…)

Picking Up and Laying Down Roots

I moved to Nashville two and a half years ago to work for Thomas Nelson. It was a big move for me. BIG. I had been in Birmingham, Alabama, for eight years.

Birmingham was my place. I built a life there. I built a home there.

And candidly I was not certain that the Nashville move would stick. I assumed the move was temporary. I assumed I would get some more experience under my belt that I could take and utilize in other opportunities. I assumed I was done cultivating rich energizing friendships. I assumed that although God was calling me to move He would bring back. I assumed I return to Birmingham after a few years. (more…)

Reflections on a Year of Blogging

I love how anniversaries, birthdays, and seasons serve as a reminder to reflect on where you started, how far you’ve come, and where you want to go.

It seems crazy that just a year ago I began blogging. It all began with a short post that shows exactly how little I knew about the journey that lied ahead.

Candidly when I started blogging I had no idea…. (more…)

Nice…Bordering On Creepy

Sitting behind our computers or our smartphones tends to bring out the BOLD in each of us.

This is one of the things I love most about Social Media. I meet strangers everyday. I go out of my way to compliment people I have never met. I know what thousands of people are up to without them knowing I am quietly stalking their every move.

But every once in a while, I read a tweet or a comment and my tiny arm hairs stand on end.

It just reads wrong. It is usually a compliment of sort, some nice words of encouragement from a total stranger. But more accurately, the words are nice bordering on CREEPY. (more…)

Drafting Blueprints, Part 6

Time for another “Blueprints” post. If you haven’t been following along, here is a basic overview and links to the first 5 points.

My “Blueprint” series is essentially a mechanism for me to start thinking through my life goals. And as hard humiliating as it is to admit some of the things I want to achieve in life, I am trying to be painfully honest because (for some crazy reason) I feel like I need to put them “out there.”

Part 1 – I want to get married.

Part 2 – I want to get fit.

Part 3 – I want to get my hands dirty.

Part 4 - I want to cultivate deep and authentic friendships.

Part 5 – I want to have kids.

I want to master the art of living.

Master the art of living? (more…)

6 Women to Watch (Blissdom Style)

Last week I went to my first blogging conference, Blissdom.

I had a blast. Okay, maybe that is a slight exaggeration. Really I left feeling kind of really overwhelmed. It was a lot of women. And a lot of information.

But I would go again in a heartbeat.

I learned. I was inspired. And I met some amazing women. Amazing women…who blog. Amazing women…who blog and tweet.

The Tommy Nelson Girls with Dedra and Tammy

Here are six you should follow. Right now. Go check them out. And don’t forget to tell them I sent you. (more…)

Going to Get My Bliss On

I am headed to Blissdom

Blissdom is the premiere conference for women who find and express their bliss by publishing online.  Blissdom ‘10, our third conference, is a welcoming oasis in the ever-changing blogging world. Speakers and panels featuring the best blogging, public relations and social media pros will be gathering to mentor new and old friends alike.

I am so excited. I love to learn. I love to blog. I love talking about social media. I love connecting with other bloggers. I love putting a face and a warm laugh with a twitter handle. Plus, the handsome crooner Harry Connick Jr. is going to sing me a song or two. I love it when handsome crooners sing me a song or two.

But as much as I am looking forward to it, I am kind of really nervous. (more…)

A Laundry List of Requests

One thing I love about Social Media is that it is an easy what to know what is going in people’s lives (not everything, but certainly the very good and the very bad tend to pop up). So you can kind of keep tabs on what to be praying for. I am sure you already have a laundry list of prayer requests but can I suggest a few more?

Sweet, sweet, sweet Kate McRae’s family has had to make a hard impossible decision about her future treatment plans. Now that is behind them, they have a long road of ahead with chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Pray that the family would endure, stay faithful, and that their little girl would be healed.
