Miscellaneous Thoughts from Thirty Thousand Feet

Right now I am making the journey home after three long-but-amazing days in New York City for the O’Reilly’s Tools of Change for Publishing conference.

And while I am feeling the pressure to get out a thought-provoking blog post, I feel like all my circuits are…well, a little overloaded.

Here’s are just a few of my miscellaneous thoughts from thirty thousand feet…

The world of publishing is it an interesting crux right now. Before we know words like books, publisher, author, and sales channel are going to be completely redefined. What an exciting time to work for a publisher!

I am so proud to work for Thomas Nelson. EVERY TIME I have the opportunity to sit down with colleagues and hear their story, I am endeared and inspired. Our team truly is world-class. World-class.

Words can not express how excited I am about the next few days…

Friday morning we have our first Cultivate Her event of 2010 and we are talking dreams. It’s going to be a wonderful event. I am so excited to reconnect with these women. (Oh, and it’s not too late to register, click here for details.)

Saturday night is the “Help Haiti Live” Compassion benefit. The show is at my favorite venue, The Ryman Theatre. And Allison Krauss, Mat Kearney, Jars of Clay, Amy Grant, and a handful of other incredible artists are performing. But if I am being honest, I am just as excited about the people who are joining me for the show as for the show itself.

Sorry for the ramblings…it must be the altitude.

Your turn…what is going on with you?

Also, my dads non for profit is taking off and being his designer I am really busy. Just sent off brochures to the printer and hoping to get them very soon. He is quitting his job at the end of March and will do this full time.

    Pretty cool stuff.
I am looking forward to reading some book publishing post from you. Got some questions of my own I wonder about.

  • I wish, wish, WISH I could be in LA or Nashville on Saturday. We'll be driving back to Cali that day/night and counting down our days till deployment. Blah. Just in case you forget, because there's a real danger of it, have an awesome, amazing, God-filled night that night. It's gonna be good.

Oh how fun! If you see Alece, you two will have to hug each others necks for me! Sounds like you have been a very busy girl! Hope you find some time to rest in there too!

  • After what feels like years of yuckiness, I had several really good things happen this week:
    – wrote an article for a magazine (accounting magazine)
    – had an article accepted by Burnside Writers Collective website
    – meeting 2 blogging friends for the 1st time on Saturday
    – going to Los Angeles for Easter to see one of my best friends & meeting 2 more blogging friends for the 1st time.

Woohoo – change is in the air!

    • yay Kate! congratulations on the writing success…that is huge!

  • Good for you! You are out there and living a good life (a good story)!

I'm starting the Beth Moore Bible Study "Breaking Free" (new, updated version) next week. Excited to see what God has in store for our group through this.

Contemplating some changes on my blog or perhaps starting a new one that's a totally different format.

Working on a project with some dear friends to help single parents with their sometimes overwhelming task. Prayer for this much appreciated! 🙂

Oh, and I need to find time to clean my house before small group comes over Friday night! Yikes!!!

  • Wish I could join Cultivate Her. Any plans for an Arizona branch? Haahaa.

I am currently battling allergies. Have to love those trees and grasses that bloom/pollinate this time of year.

Tomorrow my hubby and I are going away for the weekend. A change of scenery and some time away from the realities of life.

  • I love the Ryman … there is no place like it. Always love to be in Nashville over the Christmas holidays when the Grand Ole Opry is at the Ryman while the Rockettes are at the Opry House. I even managed to get on stage there once during a live show. 🙂 Aahhh … Nashville. My happy place.

  • It sounds like your trip was awesome! I enjoyed following your tweets about your trip.
Currently I am working on new posts for my blog, getting more running in for a 10k that I am running at the end of March in Charleston, SC, doing a Beth Moore study on Revelation and just trying to enjoy life as much as possible! 🙂
