That’s Right (You’re Not from Texas)

IMG_0853

I have always loved that Lyle Lovett song.

See I was born and raised in Texas
And it means so much to me
Though my girl comes from down in Georgia
We were up in Tennessee

And as we were driving down the highway
She asked me baby what’s so great
How come you’re always going on
About your Lone Star State

I said that’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway

Because it is so true. People who aren’t from Texas just don’t get it. (Some of them want to get it. But most of the time they just don’t.)

There is something truly special about the beautiful Lone Star State.

Last week I got to go home and enjoy the best Texas has to offer…delicious Mexican food, extraordinary Spring weather, beautiful horses, glorious wildflowers, proudly weird Austin, and some extra-friendly folks. The trip was like food for my soul.

Thought I’d share a few of my favorite pictures from the trip! (more…)

Today I am participating in Jon Acuff’s ginormous guest post tour.

Don’t know who Jon Acuff is?

You should. He is hilarious. He is smart. He is a Christian. And he makes fun of Christians. Come on, let’s face it…we, as Christians, are funny.

Jon’s debut book  Stuff Christians Like released on April 1. You need to go buy a copy. Don’t believe me? Well, read his blog and follow him on twitter and you’ll quickly be convinced.

And without further adeu…

The “Is that contestant on American Idol a Christian?” Scorecard

102. When they get kicked off and have to sing their final song they end it with an altar call = +2 points

103. They sing Stryper’s “to Hell with the Devil” during their audition. = + 1 point

104. They change the lyrics of Stryper’s “To Hell to with the Devil” to “To Heck with the Devil” because frankly those Stryper boys really had no call to sing that. = + 2 points

Word-less

Questions and Answers signpost

Have you ever written a post that made you want to cry when you re-read it?

Have you ever finished a post and then felt like you didn’t have anything else to say (at least for awhile)?

That’s how I felt about this.

I think I finally put words to what my heart has been silently screaming. And with the cathartic release, I feel free. And a little empty. And a lot word-less.

And so this week I have decided to steal a play from my friend @inprogress‘s playbook and answer your questions.

So, in the comments below, please leave some hearty blog-post-worthy questions. Ask me anything… about life, about work, about blogging, about twittering, about relationships, about Nashville, about Birmingham, about restaurants (I love, love, love to talk about restaurants)… and I will pick a few and will be on way.

Thanks in advance for your help!
