Finishing Our Race

On Sunday, thirteen friends (some of whom I just met the night before) and I came together from all over the United States, completed the San Diego Rock N’ Roll Half Marathon and raised over $10,000 for Compassion International.

It was the perfect day, the perfect setting, to run a half marathon.

The sun was out. The sky was blue. The air was dry. The breeze was cool. The bands were…loud. And the crowd enthusiastically cheered us on, right to the finish line.

And we did it. All 14 of us. We finished our race.

I don’t cling to my life for my own sake. The only value I place on my life is that I may finish my race, that I may fulfill the ministry that Jesus, our King, has given me, that I may gladly tell the good news of God’s Grace.

Congratulations JenniferTimMarijkeMilynLVChadSarahCassidyChristineJessicaMelissaLauren, and Scott! I loved finishing this race with you.

And a big “thank you” to everyone here who supported us with prayers, words of encouragement, and donations. We couldn’t have done it without your love and support.

What did you get into this weekend?

Lindsey has a sincere love for her precious dogs Molly and Maisy, a good red wine and the Delta Sky Club. She spends her days (and some nights) laboring to end childhood hunger at Feed the Children and to gather, equip and unleash women at IF:Gathering.

I’m so glad that my home was nice to you… the weather, the people, and the race.  I wouldn’t expect it any different.  I watched all of you guys come in, (standing about at the 12.5 mile mark) screaming and cheering along with my 10 year old.  My sister was also in this race, but ahead of you guys.  I am so very happy that thousands of dollars were earned.  Congrats on a great race, But most of all Congrats for what you do for the Compassion INTL.

  • Way to go, all of you!  “[S]ince we have such a great cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every encumbrance, …and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixin’ (as they would say in the South) our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”  I guess you guys know a little bit about that now, don’t you?  Well done….

  • Finishing is the goal. Although not coming in dead last is goal I could never get rid of. But the person in last finished did finish. Unfortunately some never get started.

    • Yeah, sometimes we have to find contentment in just finishing. 🙂

  • CONGRATS 🙂

    • Probably not the blog post you were wanting…but that will come…soon. Miss you!

    Congrats!!!

  • I have watched that marathon in years past.  Congratulations on finishing.  I was moved by the scripture you included in your blog.   This race of life does not have a winners circle,  only a finish line….  and even that is just a portal to a wonderful celebration for those who have run.  What fun to run with a group of faithful friends. You bless our life Lyndsey.  Diane and I look forward to seeing you again.

  • Way to go!

  • Congrats! I knew you’d finish! Way to persevere when it would have been easier to quit. Great job, Lindsey, and welcome to the club!!

  • congrats!! 🙂

  • LS

Congrats, Lindsey and team! Looks/sounds like it was a blast.
I spent Saturday getting ahead on work so I can leave for Africa in a few weeks. I’m going with a group from my church, but I have a side trip before coming home to meet my Compassion child! 🙂

  • **IF** I ever ran a race (farther than down 1/2 my block) (not kidding), THIS is how I’d wanna do it; with friends and benefitting someone else.  I loved following your and Sarah’s updates on this.  It made ME smile to read YOUR experience.

I planned on sponsoring both of y’all, but forgot until Saturday and you were already beyond your goal (wahooo!!).  Amazing that 14 people raised over $10,000.  Inspiring.

    (Congratulations!)

    • Be thinking about next year…and you are so sporty. You could do 13 miles today.
