Well, I’m in Phoenix this week and it’s not actually beginning to look a lot like Christmas AT ALL. My Food for the Hungry colleagues that call Arizona home keep commenting on the ‘cool’ weather but I keep shedding layers and searching for any signs of the quickly approaching holidays. Starbucks red cups – check. Rogue Christmas trees – check check. Trader Joes Peppermint Joe-Joes – unfortunately, the jury is still out. {When I finally find them you will know. Yes, I will. You won’t miss me shouting from the mountaintops, over the hills and everywhere. I love them that much. And you, of course.}

But at home in Nashville, the home of the tender Tennessee Christmas, signs of the holidays abound. Last weekend before I nestled all snug in my bed and visions of sugarplums danced in my head, I cuddled up with the pup and watched Hallmark’s “Countdown to Christmas.” {I know. I know. I have issues. But I can’t stay away. It sucks me in every time. Don’t make me tell you about the time I had to call my cable provider and complain to a technician that I wasn’t getting Lifetime or Hallmark. Can you say embarrassing? Truly it might have been a low point for me. But I didn’t regret for it a minute because I enjoyed hours of holiday entertainment on FaLaLaLifetime and ABCFamily’s 25 Days of Christmas.} Hallmark Christmas movies, actually all Christmas movies, are one of my favorite things in the whole wide world.

Christmas movies are so full of joy and hope. And the messages are as crystal clear as after school specials. Love others. Embrace the magic of the holidays. Focus on what is really important. See your life for what it really is.

2. Love Actually

3. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

4. Miracle on 34th Street

5. The Holiday {there was some discussion on whether this was holiday enough but the general consensus was that it is so alas it’s number 5}
