Last week I posed a question on here about boys and girls, men and women, friends forever or a recipe for disaster. The comments were fascinating. People told stories and shared opinions. A beautiful dialogue was created. So today I want to pose another series of questions on something that has been nagging at me lately and let you guys impart your wisdom once again. (You obviously know a lot more than I do.)

First let me say, I am a huge advocate of social media. Social media allows us to build community, stay in touch, and connect like-minded people around the world.

Do you think social media has blurred our definition of intimacy?

Do you find yourself or others confusing online transparency with vulnerability?

Do you ever wonder who is a virtual stranger, and who is a virtual best friend?

I’d love to hear your thoughts…

Lately I have noticed that we (yes, me too) sure tweet a lot of lies. We tweet a lot of untruths, falsehoods, fibs, fabrications, deceptions, inventions, pieces of fiction, falsifications, half-truths, exaggerations, and tall tales. Plainly, we tweet lot of crap.

Call me a skeptic BUT was that sandwich REALLY the best thing you have ever put in your mouth or did it not taste nearly as good as it looked in the picture? Was that 2.5 mile run REALLY exhilarating or would you have rather have been loafing around on the couch? Was that conference REALLY so overwhelming with goodness and inspiration or did it make you feel a little defeated and a lot insecure?

I fear we have gotten so used to making everything sound simply superb in 140 characters that we wouldn’t know the truth if it jumped up and bit us.

Today I am going to try to be different and tweet only that which is 100% true. It might not be pretty but it will be real.

Of course it’s not that you meant to lie you just wanted to make sure @soandso saw you giving their #randomthing some love.

I need people, trustworthy God-honoring people, holding me accountable to my dreams, my purpose. I need friends who are willing to speak hard truth into my life. I need an extra set of eyes to see into my big gaping blind spots. I need life editors. Go read his post.

Fancy, huh? And that’s not even the half of it.

We screened Secretariat on the Disney lot. You know the Disney lot? Where the Disney movies are made?

We met Randall Wallace. Randall Wallace who is the director of Secretariat who wrote and/or directed blockbusters like Braveheart, We Were Soldiers, and Pearl Harbor. Randall Wallace who is hands down one of the most interesting people I have ever met.

All this to say…it was an incredible trip. Thank you, Different Drummer.

But the highlight on the trip was definitely the movie.

Secretariat is full of hope. Secretariat is the kind of movie that makes you laugh and makes you cry.  Secretariat is the kind of movie that causes you to break into applause in the movie theater. Secretariat is the kind of movie that reminds you that there are things in life worth fighting for.

So would you do me a favor and go see it? Gather up your family and friends this weekend and treat yourself to an afternoon, or evening, at the movies. You won’t regret it.

And just because you have seen one movie about a horse doesn’t mean you have seen them all!

I have decided to tweak, and possibly reconstruct, lindseynobles.com. For a few days, it is going to be a little messy around here. I hope you will forgive me.

And please feel free to make any comments or suggestions. I want any changes to be an IMPROVEMENT.

It seems crazy that just a year ago I began blogging. It all began with a short post that shows exactly how little I knew about the journey that lied ahead.

Candidly when I started blogging I had no idea….

No idea that I’d have ANY readers (except for my mom and dad, they were kind of shoe-ins).

No idea that I’d enjoy writing.

No idea how much I’d learn about myself through the process of writing.

No idea that I’d meet many fascinating folks from all around the world.

No idea that I’d find myself energized by dorky things like talking blogging strategy with friends and colleagues.

No idea how encouraged I’d be by practical strangers.

No idea how that I’d learn to live more as a result of putting myself out there here.

No idea that something so simple would change my life.

But it has.

Blogging has changed my life. It has changed me.

And so I wanted to take a moment to let you know that at I am grateful for each one of you.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for commenting. Thank you for inspiring me to keep on.

This is one of the things I love most about Social Media. I meet strangers everyday. I go out of my way to compliment people I have never met. I know what thousands of people are up to without them knowing I am quietly stalking their every move.

But every once in a while, I read a tweet or a comment and my tiny arm hairs stand on end.

It just reads wrong. It is usually a compliment of sort, some nice words of encouragement from a total stranger. But more accurately, the words are nice bordering on CREEPY.

The exact same thing could be said by someone else, anyone else, and I would think absolutely nothing of it. But something, I assume my intuition, alerts me that these words are different, that this sender might not have altruistic motives, that I might have something to fear.

Suddenly I feel uncomfortable at the way I am exposed.

Still, for me, the pros of Social Media outweigh the cons. I will continue to put myself out there. But maybe just a little more cautiously?
