The Countdown (And Download) Is On…

Christmas is just around the corner. Literally 45 days and counting….

(Where exactly does time go?)

And now is the time to be downloading Christmas music so that you can start feeling all festive.

I need to know. What Christmas album and/or song do you consider required listening?

Here are mine, don’t judge.

Album: Kenny and Dolly’s “Once Upon Christmas”

Song: Wham’s “Last Christmas”

I told you not to judge. But if you couldn’t help yourself, please know that I love the ones that actually talk about the arrival of Christ too but there is something about these that take me back. Way back.

Oh, and if you are looking for something new to add to your music library, you should check out “The Essential Christmas Collection” with songs from Tenth Avenue North, Third Day, Matt Maher, Jars of Clay and many others. It is fantastic. Fantastic.

Lindsey has a sincere love for her precious dogs Molly and Maisy, a good red wine and the Delta Sky Club.

  • I wasn't going to share because I have a strict "no Christmas music before the day after Thanksgiving" policy, but since I'm not actually listening to it figure I'm safe.

Album: Third Day's "Christmas Offerings" – the last track gets me every time
Song: Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas (is You)"

Hope you have yourself a merry lil' one. 🙂

Oh, by far – Our favorite Christmas album EVER is Andrew Peterson's "Behold The Lamb". Unbelievable! He takes you through Moses, the Passover, Joseph and Mary, and Jesus' birth in song. Ridiculous. His concert is a must see. We are going in three weeks and I absolutely cannot wait. Do I sound excited about this at all?

    • I'm going to the Nashville show at the Ryman. It's my first time to see it. Can't wait!

      • Chrystie

Oh my word! You are going to fall in love. I am telling you….Our first time ever seeing him or even hearing him was last year. He is ridiculously talented. Some of the lyrics rock my world. Particularly in the song Labor of Love. You will have to tell me what you think of it. Absolutely amazing. Best and most unique Christmas CD and show ever. Ok, I will stop now.

  • My favorite is Bing Crosby's "White Christmas."
My recent post This Is Me

  • Oh, me too! Kenny and Dolly's "Once Upon A Christmas" totally takes me back.____My favorite album, though, would have to be Andrew Peterson's "Behold The Lamb of God." For the song – it would be a toss-up between Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" and Fountains of Wayne's "I Want An Alien For Christmas." For different reasons. 🙂

    • I love David Bowie and Bing Crosby's Peace on Earth…

  • It wouldn't be Christmas without the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, James Taylor, and Over the Rhine, with a little bit of Amy Grant for old times sake. But my absolute favorite since it released a few years ago is Bebo Normans' Christmas From the Realms of Glory. It is hands-down the most worshipful Christmas album I've ever listened to. Gets me each and every time!

  • My favorite Christmas album is Ska-La-La-La-La by Bunch of Believers.
Favorite Christmas song is Putting On a Play from the same album.
It's Christmas with a very fun twist!

  • Lindsey! If you're looking for anymore Christmas music, Sara Groves also has some new music. It's available for download at I'd suggest checking it out, it's really good! 🙂

OK, first I freaked that Christmas is so close. But now that I'm over that, here's my favorite song from last year:
    DownHere, "How Many Kings"

I am going to download that Christmas album! Thanks for the tip!

  • My favorite Christmas song: Oh Holy Night, sung by Point of Grace….. its like listening to angels singing 🙂

  • Is it okay if I add Handel's Messiah? It is my must listen every year. Usually I go to a concert, too.

No judging here. My favorite is Travis Cottrell – Ring the Bells.
Since there is NO judging ….I listen to it ALL YEAR LONG.
    Nuff said.

    • I listen throughout the year too. Shouldn't we always be celebrating Jesus' birth? 🙂

  • Michelle Sabados

Must have Harry Connick Jr.–both of his Christmas albums. And Michael Buble. (Is my love of crooner's showing?)

When I'm homesick for my family in Kansas–I listen to Roger Whitaker and Bing Crosby. They were the background music of my childhood Christmas seasons.

"O Holy Night" is a song I can listen to in July and still be moved to tears.

I discovered a great Christmas album last year. It is called Christmas With A Capital C (Snow: The Deluxe Edition) by the GoFish Guys –

  • i'm going to try the andrew peterson album, since so many have suggested it.

but the ones that come to my mind first are mariah carey's christmas album and harry connick, jr's christmas album. SOOOO GOOOOD! oh! and i also love the 'very special christmas' albums, the best being the red and green ones.

    p.s. i ADORE your choices.

My recent post for girls only- the list

  • I agree with Chyrstie – Andrew Peterson’s “Behold the Lamb” is amazing.

I also recently discovered “Maybe This Christmas Tree,” a compilation album featuring covers of Christmas classics by Death Cab for Cutie, Jars of Clay, Polyphonic Spree, The Raveonettes, and a lot of other interesting artists. :o)

Favorite album is probably Josh Groban's Noel. Favorite song has to be either O Come, O Come Emmanuel, O Holy Night or Joy to the World. Can't decide. All of them get to me.

    • Amy

He is the only person in the world, in my humble opinion, who is allowed to sing the atrocity that is Little Drummer Boy. In fact, his version makes me tear up and gives me chills all at the same time! That middle section with the pan flute? Amazing! : )

Hey Lindsey! I know it's a little old skool as far as Christian Christmas music is concerned, but for me, 4Him's "White Christmas" is must listen. In fact their entire Christmas album is awesome!

  • The only thing I listen to for christmas is sufjan stevens Christmas.
    Its a must.

I think I will check out Phil Wickhams Christmas album this year.
But Sufjans is on repeat starting December 1st, the true first day of Christmas music.

  • The first song I think of when I think of Christmas is O Holy Night but the version, which gets the most play in my house, is Michael Crawford’s (aka Phantom fame)

A new favorite for this year will be Winter Snow Song by Audrey Assad, which was featured on Chris Tomlin’s Christmas Album, Glory In The Highest. I stumbled across it while doing a little research for one of my Worship Wednesday posts, check out this cool video that someone created:

  • Oh my goodness. Mercy Me's 'The Christmas Sessions' is the best Christmas CD I have ever heard in my entire life. I wore a copy of it out a few years ago and I had to buy a new one. That is how much I love this CD.

You MUST check it out! It has a little bit of everything. Jesus…Not Jesus.

    So good.

Casting Crowns – I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day

  • downloading…

Michael W. Smith's 1st Christmas album is such required listening that I've had to buy it 3 times because I lost the CD. Thanks to some thorough searching last year, I now have 2 of them in my posession. One will be in the house CD player, one will be in the car. : )

I can't decorate the tree without Kenny and Dolly! I also can't wait to try out Dave Barnes new Christmas CD. Should be a gooder.

  • 79leslie

The Elvis Christmas album…all time favorite!

  • Album: Amy Grant's "Home for Christmas"

Song: Chris Rice's "Welcome to Our World"

  • I have two essential Christmas CDs: 1) Elvis' Christmas and 2) Sufjan Stevens, Songs for Christmas.

And, I usually have a strict no-Christmas-music-until-after-Thanksgiving policy but I think you've pushed me over the edge. I don't think I'm going to be able to wait.

  • Claude

Actually, I've always thought that "Once Upon A Christmas," the song, was one of the most beautiful and reverent "modern" Christmas songs. Well worth a listen for those who haven't heard it. So is "It Wasn't His Child" by Skip Ewing. I also LOVE Harry Connick Jr's "Blessed Dawn of Christmas Day." Ok, I'm officially in the mood for the Christmas tunes. Looking for my Dean Martin & Bing Crosby albums.:)
